What International Patients Should Include in the Total Budget
When comparing IVF costs between countries, compare the same medical and travel items. The HFEA’s costs guidance notes that apparently different prices may simply contain different items and recommends obtaining a fully costed treatment plan.

Why Might Your Final Cost Vary?
The final estimate can change when the medical plan changes. The items below are conditional; they are not routine additions for every patient.
1. Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT-A)
Advanced maternal age, miscarriage or a previous failed IVF cycle is not, by itself, an indication for PGT-A. The ASRM 2024 committee opinion states that routine PGT-A for all IVF patients has not been shown to improve outcomes. It may be discussed in selected older patients, particularly when ovarian response is good and several blastocysts are available, but the effect on the cumulative live-birth rate remains uncertain.
When only one or two blastocysts are expected, biopsy and testing can add time and cost and may leave no embryo labelled suitable for transfer. Previous failure should also prompt a review of embryo yield, transfer difficulty, the uterine cavity, hydrosalpinx, adenomyosis and cycle preparation before PGT-A is presented as the answer.
2. Severe Male Infertility (TESE/Micro-TESE)
If no sperm is found in the semen (azoospermia), a surgical procedure called micro-TESE may be required to extract sperm directly from the testicular tissue under anesthesia. This surgical intervention carries its own distinct cost.
3. Embryo Vitrification (Freezing)
If your cycle yields multiple suitable embryos, or if maintaining a “freeze-all” strategy is medically necessary, embryo freezing and annual storage incur an additional laboratory fee.
How to Get an Accurate Estimate
General online prices are only a starting point. A case-specific estimate requires medical assessment and should state its date, currency, inclusions and conditional costs.

Are there extra fees for international patients?
No separate international-patient surcharge is applied. The medical procedure cost is the same whether a patient is local to Istanbul or traveling from abroad. Translation and patient coordination support are included in the clinic’s international-patient pathway.

Is the first IVF quote the same as the final total cost?
Not always. The first quote usually reflects the planned medical cycle, but the final total can change if medication needs are higher or lower than expected, if PGT or embryo freezing is needed, or if future frozen embryo transfer requires another trip.
