IVF Cost in Istanbul: What International Patients Should Budget For
For international patients, the cost of IVF in Istanbul is best understood as a medical estimate, not a fixed travel package. A base IVF or ICSI cycle covers the core clinical and laboratory work, while medication, genetic testing, embryo freezing, frozen embryo transfer, surgical sperm retrieval, and travel costs can change the final budget.
At our clinic in Istanbul, guided by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Senai Aksoy, cost discussions begin with medical record review. We do not frame IVF as a package sale. We explain what is included, what is separate, and which items depend on your diagnosis, ovarian reserve, sperm findings, and transfer plan.

The Core IVF Cycle Cost
The clinic uses a standard base rate for a complete IVF or ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) cycle. This rate covers the essential clinical and laboratory steps required for the planned cycle.

What International Patients Should Include in the Total Budget
When comparing IVF costs between countries, compare the same medical and travel items. The HFEA’s costs guidance notes that apparently different prices may simply contain different items and recommends obtaining a fully costed treatment plan.
| Check in each written estimate | Why it changes the total |
|---|---|
| Base IVF or ICSI cycle | Confirm whether monitoring, egg retrieval, fertilisation, embryo culture, and fresh transfer are included |
| Medication and local monitoring | Dose and monitoring needs vary with the individual treatment plan |
| PGT, freezing, storage, and later transfer | These are separate laboratory or treatment stages and may require another cycle |
| Surgical sperm retrieval | Micro-TESE or another retrieval procedure is not part of a standard cycle |
| Flights, accommodation, and return travel | A freeze-all or later frozen transfer can change the number and length of trips |
This is why a personalised estimate is safer than comparing headline prices alone. The HFEA’s treatment-abroad checklist also advises including travel, accommodation, insurance, time away from work, and unexpected extras.
Why Might Your Final Cost Vary?
While the base cycle has a set fee, the final cost of an infertility journey is inherently variable because each patient is biologically unique. Here are the primary reasons a treatment plan might require additional investment:
1. Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT-A)
For patients with advanced maternal age, recurrent miscarriages, or previous failed IVF cycles, Dr. Aksoy may recommend genetic testing of the embryos before transfer. This involves a biopsy and genetic laboratory analysis, which is billed separately per embryo.
2. Severe Male Infertility (TESE/Micro-TESE)
If no sperm is found in the semen (azoospermia), a surgical procedure called micro-TESE may be required to extract sperm directly from the testicular tissue under anesthesia. This surgical intervention carries its own distinct cost.
3. Embryo Vitrification (Freezing)
If your cycle yields multiple suitable embryos, or if maintaining a “freeze-all” strategy is medically necessary, embryo freezing and annual storage incur an additional laboratory fee.
How to Get an Accurate Estimate
General online prices are only a starting point. To plan your journey accurately, a personalized medical assessment is required.
International patients should also think about timing. A full fresh cycle often requires about 15 to 20 days in Istanbul, while frozen embryo transfer or PGT can change the travel plan. See the IVF treatment timeline in Istanbul before booking flights.
Patients can contact the international coordination team via WhatsApp or email. After reviewing recent medical history, hormonal panels such as AMH, and sperm analysis, Dr. Aksoy can outline a tailored clinical strategy and provide a case-specific cost estimate.
Are there extra fees for international patients?
No separate international-patient surcharge is applied. The medical procedure cost is the same whether a patient is local to Istanbul or traveling from abroad. Translation and patient coordination support are included in the clinic’s international-patient pathway.
What is the cost of living/accommodation in Istanbul during the treatment?
The cost and length of stay vary depending on your specific protocol, but patients generally stay in Istanbul for about 15 to 20 days. Istanbul offers a broad range of accommodation options. Our coordination team can assist with recommendations close to the clinic.
Is the first IVF quote the same as the final total cost?
Not always. The first quote usually reflects the planned medical cycle, but the final total can change if medication needs are higher or lower than expected, if PGT or embryo freezing is needed, or if future frozen embryo transfer requires another trip.
Medical review and disclaimer
Reviewed on 26 July 2026 by Assoc. Prof. Dr Senai Aksoy. This update clarified the base-versus-total comparison, added independent cost-comparison guidance, and aligned the clinic/physician identity and review dates. The final cost of IVF can only be confirmed after medical assessment. Prices and inclusions may change.
