Assoc. Prof. Dr. Senai Aksoy: IVF Specialist in Istanbul
I am an obstetrician and gynaecologist working in IVF and the treatment of infertility since 1994. I trained in France, and today I see patients at my independent practice in Nişantaşı, Istanbul. Many of them have already had tests or treatment elsewhere, so my first job is usually to read that history carefully before suggesting anything new.

I qualified in medicine at Istanbul University and then completed my whole specialist training in France.

Among the First IVF and ICSI Physicians in Turkey
After returning from France, in 1994–95 I was a member of the team at Sevgi Hospital in Ankara that performed the first ICSI and TESE procedures in the country, and we published that first Turkish ICSI series in Human Reproduction in 1996 (PMID 8671323).

Member of the team that performed the first ICSI and TESE procedures in Turkey, an important step for couples with severe male infertility.
1995: IVF unit in Istanbul
Co-founded the IVF unit at the American Hospital of Istanbul.

Opened my own fertility practice.

Consultations and treatment planning at Lotus Nişantaşı, with procedures and embryology carried out at appropriately licensed facilities according to each treatment plan.
Areas of Work: ICSI, Micro-TESE and Repeated Failure
The areas I work in include:
- ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection): a single sperm is injected into each mature egg. It is used for specific reasons, such as low sperm counts, surgically retrieved sperm or poor fertilisation in an earlier cycle, not as a routine upgrade.
- Micro-TESE: for men with non-obstructive azoospermia, sperm is searched for directly in testicular tissue under an operating microscope.
- Repeated implantation failure and miscarriage: I start by reviewing what was done in the previous cycles, then look for causes that can be tested for. Additional tests or treatments are suggested only where the evidence supports them for your situation.
The goal is never to offer you the most expensive treatment, but the right treatment for you.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I speak French with Dr. Aksoy?
Yes. Dr. Aksoy trained in France and consults in French, as well as in English and Turkish. Berna, the French- and English-speaking coordinator, handles messages, appointments and travel arrangements.
Do you accept patients travelling from abroad?
Yes. The coordinators arrange appointments and airport transfers, help with the health visa and suggest where to stay. The IVF in Turkey guide explains how a treatment trip is usually organised.
Does your clinic perform egg or sperm donation?
No. Turkish law (Law No. 2238) allows treatment only with the eggs and sperm of a legally married couple. Egg, sperm and embryo donation and surrogacy are prohibited by law in Türkiye.
How long should I plan to stay in Istanbul?
Dr. Aksoy usually advises planning about 12 to 16 days for egg collection when the embryos are frozen, or about 17 to 20 days when the embryo transfer is done in the same cycle. The exact stay depends on how the ovaries respond and on the transfer plan.
